The Best Advice You’ll Ever Get

Sounds like a bold statement right?

What qualifies me to think I have the best advice you can get?

For starters, just 8 years ago I was well into 6 figures of non-mortgage debt and quickly losing hope.

Now, I’ve not only paid all of that debt down but I have a 6 month “rainy day fund,” retirement plans, college funds, no car payments, and we recently renovated our main bathroom without borrowing any money.

I hope that doesn’t sound like I’m bragging. I’m no better than you or anyone else. I simply followed the advice I’m about to give you.

I kept going. Was it easy? Heck now. It involved a lot of sacrifice.

On the financial side, there were months that we not only didn’t make progress but we went backwards. Ughh, it was so frustrating working our tails off and not making more headway.

On the business side, it was no different.

I have pretty close to what I would call an ideal business but it took time.

The following things have happened:

  • A trainer left
  • My gym got flooded
  • A good long term member who got good results left
  • The guy I was about to hire had a heart attack (he was young and “healthy”) and then had to wait
  • A client said something that hurt my feelings
  • I closed the gym because of a huge storm that was coming. It turned out to be much ado about nothing. My mistake caused several clients to become unhappy.

Maybe that doesn’t sound like a lot to you. Well, what if I told you that it all happened last week?

Sure, there were also good things that happened but these things were the reality we had to deal with.

Look, I’m as positive as the next guy but the people who act like success is a straight line are full of it.

Successful people are simply those that kept going and are now standing on a pile of messes, failures, and mistakes.

Over time, great things will happen as well as not so great things. Business isn’t easy and never will be. Nothing worthwhile is. If it was, successful business owners would be the norm. They’re not because it requires heave doses of perseverance.

So that’s my advice. Keep going. Learn from mistakes. When something isn’t working, figure out a different plan. But keep going. Go through it. Go around it. Go underneath it. But keep going.
