Put First Things First

Since all of the habits are crucial and work together, it’s hard to rank them. With that said, it’d be hard to argue that any of them make more of a difference, especially in the long run, than Habit 3.

I open the show with a question Covey challenged his readers with:

“What’s one thing you aren’t doing now that if you did regularly, would make a positive difference in your business?”

Deep down, we know the things that would help:

  • Managing our finances

  • Planning our week

  • Prospecting

  • Improving our sales process

I also explore Covey’s famous quadrants of activity through the lens of a gym owner. Most importantly, I share how you know when you are living in Quadrant 2, and how to “find more time” for those important but non-urgent activities.

Finally, we talk about delegation. You can only do so much on your own before hitting a wall. You will need help. Even if your team is small, you still need to delegate effectively. We look at Covey’s five-part framework for implementing what he calls Stewardship Delegation.

I’ll end with the same quote from Emerson that Covey does:

“The crime which bankrupts men and nations is turning aside from one’s main purpose to secure a job here or there.”

We recently added a page to our website with inspiring real-life client stories. I’d love to hear what you think.
